Rochester is in Western New York, about mid-way between sister cities Buffalo and Syracuse. The city is on the southern shore of Great Lake Ontario (the world’s fourteenth largest lake!) and just northwest of the world-renowned Finger Lakes wine region. It is the county seat for Monroe County. Rochester’s city population according to the 2010 census is approximately 210,565, making it New York’s third most populous city after New York City and Buffalo. It is at the center of a larger metropolitan area which encompasses and extends beyond Monroe County and includes Genesee County, Livingston County, Ontario County, Orleans County and Wayne County. This area, which is part of the Western New York region. Rochester is now an international center of higher education, as well as medical and technological development. The region is known for many acclaimed universities, and several of them (notably the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology) are nationally renowned for their research programs. In addition, Rochester has been and continues to be the site of many important inventions and innovations in consumer products. The Rochester area is the birthplace to corporations such as Kodak, Bausch & Lomb and Xerox that conduct extensive research and manufacturing in the fields of industrial and consumer products. The Rochester metropolitan area is the second largest regional economy in New York State. Rochester was ranked as the “most livable city” among 379 U.S. metropolitan areas.

Penfield has a total area of 37.9 square miles, of which 37.5 square miles is land and 0.4 square miles is water. Penfield is surrounded in all four directions by neighboring towns. To the North is Webster, to the South is Fairport, to the East is Walworth, and to the West is Brighton. Geographically, Penfield includes a number of parks with a variety of terrain, water features, lodges & shelters, open spaces, and athletic facilities. Rochester West Side
The Town’s 41.78 square miles of land area is located along eight miles of Lake Ontario’s south shore, and is bordered on the east by the City of Rochester through which runs the Genesee River. The topography of the Town of Greece is similar to many regions in western New York whose myriad of streams and ridges were carved out of the land by the glacial mass during the last ice age.
The Town’s main topographical feature is the Ridge running east-west through the southern portion of the Town. A natural roadway for the native population of the region, it would later become the “Honeymoon Trail” for countless couples on their way to Niagara Falls. North of the Ridge lies flatland leading up to Lake Ontario, along the shores of which lie many sandy beaches, wetlands, and numerous bays and ponds, all supporting an abundance of waterfowl and other wildlife. South of the Ridge, the land rolls gently to the New York State Barge Canal, one of the great engineering feats of the early nineteenth century, and then southward into the Genesee Valley. As the largest suburban school district in Monroe County, and the ninth-largest district in New York State, Greece Central serves most of the Town of Greece. The Greece Central School District was created in July 1928, but schools existed in the area before the town was established in 1822. There are 17 schools in Greece. The Town of Irondequoit is blessed with stunning scenery, thanks to its location on the shores of Lake Ontario, the Genesee River and the Irondequoit Bay.
